Xiamen, located at the Southeastern China Coast
and the Western side of the Taiwan Strait, has an administration area
of about 1565 square kilometers. Xiamen is composed by 7 administrative
districts with total population of 1.27 million.
Xiamen is one of the earliest classified
Economic Special Zones in China, with foreign trading being her theme
business action. In 2002, the foreign trade value, including imports
and exports, amounts to 15.2 billion totally and achieves an increment
of 37% compared with 2001. The regular convention – “8th

CIFIT)” has already become an important approach to attract
foreign capital. Simultaneously, exhibition activity has become the
center of Xiamen’s new economic growth!
Xiamen’s 3-dimentional transportation
facilities (sea, land and air) are supplementary with each other,
making the transportation network more perfect. Xiamen’s Gaoqi
International Airport is only 12 kilometers apart from the town center.
There are 26 airline companies operating business at the airport, and
more than 80 national and international airlines developed. Over 10 of
them are international airlines. Xiamen is an important harbor in the
Southeastern China. At the same time, it is also the economic and
trading center of Fujian, covering the Southern-Fujian-Triangle
(Xiamen, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou). Moreover, Xiamen links up with the
Eastern and Northern Fujian Province, the Jianxi province as well as
the Eastern Guangdong industrial district. The main exportation
commodity of Xiamen includes stoneware, handicrafts, sporting shoes, clothing,
electronic products, toys, athletic equipments and subsidiary
agricultural products.
There are altogether 81 ship yards in Xiamen.
Among the many wharfs, the biggest 16 can berth vessels with tonnage
over 10000 ton. The longest pier reached 350 meters and the highest
anchors ability reach 50000 ton. The number of loading and unloading
mechanical device reaches 595 set with 428,955-square-meter
storehouses, all managed by computerized and digitalized system.
Now, there are 272 voyages sailing out Xiamen
to oversea countries in each month, including Japan, Singapore, Long
Beach, Auckland, Busan, Europe, Mediterranean Sea, the US East Coast,
the Middle East and so on. Xiamen has navigation with more than 60 main
ports in more than 40 countries and regions, basically covered all the
global ports. Xiamen has strived to be listed as one of the biggest
port in China, and was recognized as the main hub port, base port and
the first choice of direct sailing port between China and Taiwan. The
container loading performance of Xiamen is always good. In 2003, Xiamen
has handled 2.33 million standard containers, ranked the 8th in China
and the first 40th in the world.
A clear goal for the 21st century was
determined for Xiamen, that is building up Xiamen as an international
trading port with beautiful scene. The charming Xiamen would make every
