Shenzhen port is a deep-water
port with a coastal line of 15 kilometers and has evolved into a major
international transshipment hub for Asian Pacific region. With the
development of Shekou Port Area, Yantian Port Area etc., Shenzhen has
sectioned with 9 major port areas, and all these 9 port areas built
with 45 depth berths with capacity up to 10000 tons; 130 berths for
over 500 tons; 10 berths for container vessels and of course, the
potential operating capacity is more than 60 million tons annually.
The escalating throughput has
made Shenzhen not only be the first developing seaport opened for
foreign liners service in South China, but also the most busiest port
for international liner service in China. Currently, the world top 20
shipping companies have opened the branch offices in Shenzhen,
providing 97 worldwide liner routes with average 350 callings per
month. Up to the 3rd quarter of 2004, the totally export volume has
reached 200,000 containers
In order to align to the pace of
fast growing rate due to the increased frequency and numbers of vessel
callings, Shenzhen authorities have decided to implement a new system,
called ‘Big Port, Swift Clearance’ at Yantian and Shekou
port areas, by simplifying the procedure for inward and outward port
clearance; improving the inspection system; increasing the numbers of
approval for pre-clearance etc.
