Ningbo is located at the northeastern district of Zhejiang province and at the middle of the eastern coastline of China. It is also in the south-east of Yangtze Delta. The total area is 9,365 square km and the population is about 5.5 million people.

 

In association with government open policy and the well developing market, Ningbo has become an important seaport along the east coast of China. It's competitiveness ranked top 10 among the Chinese cities. The “Ningbo Hangzhou bay cross sea bridge?is under construction. The completion of the brige will enhance the connection between Ningbo and Shanghai in all areas. As a result, there is great potential for Ningbo's economy to further develop in the future.

 

Given the adavntage of geographic location and natural resources, The Chinese Gvernment has appointed and planed Ningbo port to be developed as an “International Seaport? Under the government support and long history of development, Ningbo port is well equipped with good infrastructure and seaport facilities. Currently, the port becomes one of the busiest seaports in China.

 

The entire port has 59 produce berths which are above 500 tons levels and 22 berths are ten thousand tons levels or above. The port includes 5 major types of berth. They are ore relay, coal, crude oil, liquid chemical industry and container berth. In 1991, Ningbo port became the largest International container port in China .

 

In 2003, Ningbo cargo throughput reached 185 million ton, ranked 2nd among the China's seaport, a 21% increase from previous year. The container throughput reached 2.77 million TEU, a 49% increase. The increasing rate for container throught ranked the first among China major port for five successive years.
