Port of Guangzhou
is strategically located at the heart of the bustling Pearl River Delta with the most active export-oriented
economy in China. It extends from Guangzhou Municipality to the adjacent of Dongguan City, Zhongshan City and Zhuhai City along the Pearl River. From the estuary
upstream, Port of Guangzhou is divided into the following 4 harbors:
Humen Outer Harbor, Xinsha Terminal,
Huangpu Terminal and Guangzhou Inner Harbor.
Port
of Guangzhou is located at the confluence of Pearl River's three branches:
the East
River, West River and North River in the Pearl River system, with immediate accesses to Guangzhou's advanced communications
network of waterway, railway, highway and airway. Based on its home
economic hinterland in the Pearl River Delta and Guangdong Province, Port of
Guangzhou has spread services to the Provinces and Autonomous Region in South
China, Mid-south China, and Southwest China as well.
Port
of Guangzhou has jurisdiction over 423.5 km long shore line, and shipping channel of 173 km long, including 115
km seagoing shipping channel. Bulk and general cargo vessels of -13.5 m draught
and container vessels of the 4th & 5th generation
are able to pass in and out by taking the tide. Port of Guangzhou consists of 643 berths, among which 46 berths
are over 10 thousand DWT capacity, and 36 anchorage of up to 10 thousand
DWT capacity, with the utmost capacity of 300 thousand DWT. In addition,
Port of Guangzhou occupies totally 1.23 million m2 floor area of warehouses and stack-yard, and
controls 1212 handling equipment of various kinds, with the utmost capacity of 250
ton.
Port
of Guangzhou connected over 300 ports in over 80 countries and regions,
and over
100 domestic ports, evolving into the leading hub port in South China for foreign trade.
Port of Guangzhou has witnessed soaring business growth
and fast infrastructure expansion. In 1999, Port of Guangzhou ranked the second world-class port
of over 100 million ton annual throughput after Port of Shanghai in China. In 2003, the cargo throughput
reached 1.72 billion ton and container throughput reached 2.769
million. Now, port of Guangzhou was among the top 10 of leading world
port.
