Fuzhou, is situated at the lower reaches of the
Minjiang River of Southeast Fujian, facing Taiwan Province
to the east across the Taiwan Straits, bordering Guangdong Province
on the south, and is not far from Hong Kong and Macao.
The city of Fuzhou is the capital, political, economic, and cultural
center of Fujian Province.
It is also called as "Banyan City"
because banyan trees were commonly planted in the city more than 900
years ago. The city has an area of 11,900 square kilometers, including
an urban area of 1,043 square kilometers, and a population of 4.8
million, including more than 1.3 million urban residents. Fuzhou
features an enchanting landscape and talented people.
It has established trade relationship with more
than 120 countries and regions in the world and formed a multiple
segments and function available for foreign trade. The major foreign
trade partners are include but not limited to United
States, Japan,
Europe, Hong Kong & Taiwan. Footwear, fabric, garment, electrical
appliance & products, granite, bags are the main export
commodities; whereas machinery & equipment, electrical products,
auto data processing devices are the major imports to Fuzhou.
Fuzhou port is one of 20 hub ports in China,
composes of river harbors and sea harbors. It is an important gateway
for Fujian Province
as well as Fuzhou
city to open to the world. The throughput capacity in 2003 was 47.23
million tons and containers handled were 597600 TEU, ranked 10th of
coastal ports in China.
Fuzhou Port
consists two main ports Mawei Port
and Jiangyin Port. Mawei Port
has over 10,000 ton deep-water berths. Cargo export via Mawei is always
transit via Kaohsiung, Hong Kong or Xiamen to connect Mother Vessel,
which has longer the transit time. But Jiangyin Port
has been approved by the central government, that it will become
another port to be opened for the foreign ships in Fuzhou. It is
located at the northern shores of Fuqing Xinghua Bay;
Fuzhou-Jiangyin Port
is endowed with favorable draft and marine conditions, and is one of
the few deepwater ports in China.
A 50-thousand-ton container port with a total investment of 450 million
Yuan has been completed. The first berth has a quay length of 375 meters,
a navigation channel of 15.5 meters deep. Covering an area of 350,000
square meters. There are no tidal constraints for vessels entering or
leaving the terminal. The berth has a projected handling capacity of
500,000 TEU a year, while the yard has a storage capacity of 30,000
TEU, with three post-panamax quay cranes of 50-tonne lifting capacity
each, five yard cranes and two front-loaders, it is well equipped to
service fifth generation or even bigger container vessels. Routes
connecting with South-east Asia, West-Africa, West-America, Europe and Japan
have been opened, which will substantially shorten the transit time
from Fuzhou to the world and lower the shipping costs of foreign trade.
With favorable natural conditions and a high potential for growth, Fuzhou-Jiangyin Port
is well-poised to provide efficient and reliable services to its
customers and attract international shipping lines to connect Fuzhou to
the rest of the world. Fuzhou Port
